Dean’s Welcome
Welcome to the website of the University of Debrecen, Faculty of Engineering.
Our Faculty is one of the largest faculties with over 3,000 students. Engineers have been trained at the University of Debrecen, Faculty of Engineering for over 50 years. The University of Debrecen switched to the Bologna (BSc/MSc) system in 2002. As the Faculty of Engineering offered college degree it initially provided engineering trainings at BSc level in the new system. The education and research work is in the frame of eight departments.
Over the years the number of admitted students has been increasing continuously. The greatest increase has been experienced at the mechanical-, civil, technical management majors. On the basis of market response the faculty launched Mechatronics Engineering training in 2009. In the first academic year 25 students applied for it but in 2010 the number of applicants was 220. The Faculty has set up its R+D (research and development) activity in recent years. In 2008 the Faculty of Engineering established a “Building Energetics Cluster”. This cluster was set up by such firms and institutions that are really committed to build such buildings that have the least energy demand taking into account the economic factors in the Northern Great Plain region. To achieve this goal companies dealing with operation and implementation – or some members dealing with investment and research – team up with each other in the cluster. The members of the cluster represent those professional areas with such activities that participate in the implementation like companies with architecture, civil, building engineering profile. Since the establishment of the cluster three companies and a self-government have joined it.
The Faculty of Engineering launched 8 bachelor degree programs and 7 master degree programs in the academic year of 2016/2017: Architecture, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Technical Management BSc trainings of which Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronical Engineering and Civil Engineering trainings are educated in English language too. We offer master degrees on Building Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechatronical Engineering, Architecture and Engineering Management fields of which Mechatronical Engineering and Engineering Management are educated in English language too.
Our postgraduate programs are the followings: Urban Energy, Building Energy, Building Contructor, Railway Truck Construction and Maintenance, Technical Environmental Engineer, Technical Diagnostics, Lean, Quality Control Management. Coach Engineer, Transportation Safety Engineering, EHS Engineer.
Since the academic year of 2015/2016 Mechanical Engineering BSc training has been started in dual training as well at the Faculty of Engineering.
The tutorial staff of the Faculty of Engineering included 90 persons of which 52 persons had scientific degrees (PhD, DLA). The strategic objective of the Faculty is to increase the number of tutors with scientific degrees. The Faculty of Engineering takes part in 4 CEEPUS programs in the coordination of the following universities: Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, University of Zilina, Poznan University of Technology, Kafrelsheikh University, Faculty of Manufacturing Technologies of Technical University of Košice and University of Maribor. In the frame of CEEPUS program tutor and student mobility projects are also possible. In the frame of ERASMUS program 7 Hungarian and 4 international students travelled with scholarship for one-semester long trainings to Germany, Finland, Italy and Portugal in the academic year of 2016/2017.The number of international students has increased significantly to approximately 250.
Our faculty provides theoretical and practical knowledge in accordance with international requirements that can be converted, keeps on trying to serve the requirements of students and modern era.
Debrecen and its university provide a perfect basis of our students not only to gain their high academic qualifications but to live varied social life.
I truly hope that I can welcome you personally at our Faculty in the near future.
